PT2 Topic Brainstorm

In this post, please explain what area you'd like to investigate. If you have a specific question you'd like to answer, write that too. Explain what you're hoping to expose by looking into this topic. (200 words max)

UPDATE: April 1, 2019
Go back to your original post and update your decision.

  • If it hasn't changed, explain why you feel confident in your choice.
  • If it has changed, explain why you felt you needed to change.
Then, ask a question that you need answering before you'll be able to move on.

  1. I wanted to look into something that is a major problem in today’s world so I looked at some news websites and one of the major problems that has been a hot topic on a lot of websites is global warming. So I was thinking of finding solutions to this but, I wanted it to be a creative way just like the ted talks video we watched about the lady using games to change people’s bad habits that affect the environment negatively. So I’m still thinking of what’s the best way to indirectly make people stop polluting which would overall lower somewhat some global warming. Even if they do not know that global warming is a problem, my goal will be to find a way to make them supposedly unintentionally stop being part of the cause of global warming.

    1. My topic is still the same.

My only question is, is there really even a way to get people interested into doing something which will reduce somewhat of the causes of global warming?

    2. If you find very cool solutions to your topic you will get people involved.

  2. Why we deny the evidence of injustice to our earth and within us and continue to allow these crimes to evolve. Or something relating to human health in climate change. Climate change is an urgent and relevant topic that continues to enter my mind and raise questions. I'm hoping to answer at least one of these questions, a more specific question derived from: Why considerable efforts are not being implemented to stop climate change. Why do we still deny the apparent.

    2. Revised Topic: Relation of Cognitive Dissonance to Climate Change Rejection: Denying Our Own Mortality

What I'm hoping to research is the reasoning behind the deliberate denial of climate change and why such a huge mass of the population stand with refusal of this very real threat. Climate Change is dangerous to our population, and this point has be emphasized by so many scientists, yet still there are groups who deliberately misinterpret these facts and believe otherwise. I want to explore the psychology behind this and one relation I found was cognitive dissonance, which is when someone faces two contradicting beliefs and feels inferior in their choice. To get rid of this feeling, many people choose to ignore the other belief. My question is why this approach is so popular and why it is done regarding climate change. Denial of our own mortality is an area I was thinking of focusing on.

My question: Is this an interesting topic to a reader? Would you want to read it? And is it too basic, should I make it more complex?

      Delete
    3. I think this topic is very interesting, especially the exploration of psychology and climate change is extremely insightful and thought provoking. It's definitely something I would love to read. I also think the complexity is adequate. My only concern towards your topic is if there is a lot of research on this topic and how you can tweak this so that more research is applicable to this.

      Delete
    4. I think your topic is very interesting because that is a major problem in today's world ,so this research/topic will actually be quite useful. As far as it goes about being basic and complex I think the topic is already quite complex and will be perfect the way it is

      Delete
    5. I think it's a really interesting topic because it makes me question the way I function and how it can pose threats to the world around me. It makes me think about my actions and the thought processes that influence them. I think the cognitive dissonance fits in really well with your topic. I think your topic works very well. You could explore all the different routes that people take in their thoughts and how each one of them relate to the issue with climate change.

  3. We live in Canada so we have a very multicultural demographic as a society. As an immigrant, I wanted to research a topic that affects many people also like me. I wanted to look into canada's immigration policies so I would like to research sometimes related to that and how immigration affects a country. I would also like to answer the question "Does Canada need immigration reform.”. I also had seen some articles about the benefits of immigration. So I might interweave research about the positives on immigration and maybe also talk about how we should be accepting a higher number of immigrants.

    1. I still like my topic as its something of relevance to today's society. It is something that is interesting to me and therefore the topic will be good to do.

    2. What topics can I introduce under the umbrella of immigration. Immigration seems a little general.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I think your topic is interesting to write on. Not a lot of students write about immigration, so I think it be very creative to write on immigration. Also, once you include your sources, and make them have a conversation, it will become a really interesting paper.

    4. I think a possible topic could be the opportunities of migration and taking in refugees. I found a website explaining these two topics into depth:

      I hope its helpful!

  4. In PT2, I'd like to investigate how the human psyche is projected onto artificial intelligence, and how this allows for machine learning to develop its own conceptual understanding of humanity. In particular, I'm focusing on Carl Jung's research on the collective unconsciousness and how it pertains to my topic. If I had a specific question I would like to ask in this research, it would be: How does humanity project the idea of collective unconsciousness unto artificial intelligence, and how then does machine learning apply these ideas into its decision making, actions, philosophizing, discovery, etc?

In this topic, I'm hoping to expose the intricacies of artificial intelligence and how, under human influence, a programmed conceptual understanding can be autonomously altered.

  5. The topic I'm going to be investigating is on to what extent social media and gaming has replaced religion in the mass of society in the past decades. I will be using the social media article and the gaming ted talk as the two stimulus materials. This entire topic is on the assumption that gaming and social media has risen over the years, and that they're only going to continue to rise in popularity and influence. I'm also trying to see how the future of this trinity of influences will change in the balance of power. This will also show the gradual changes in the mindset of society, as each of these give different values and ideologies to people. A visible proof of religion being somewhat replaced is the rise of Atheism in general, along with greater promotion of mental health, rather than religion. I will also attempt to predict which of the three will hold the greatest influence in the future, given a wide array of circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Upon further research into this topic, I feel confident in speaking on if/how religion has been influentially replaced by gaming and social media. However, I know religion is definitely still going strong, I just feel that its impact on society, specifically adolescence students, is at an all time low.

      Question:
Do you think the general influence of adolescence students has changed?

      Delete
    2. Yes, i believe that the general influence of adolescence students has definitely shifted. But you should determine the area and type of teens you will be researching as teens in a more religious country or area will yield different statistics than a more atheist and science driven societies.

      Delete
    3. I think that in today's world, especially in multicultural societies, the youth is becoming more tolerant. I believe this tolerance is less prevalent in the older masses as they may be more conservative. I believe that tolerance reduces the influence that religion has on people's actions.

  6. I would like to look at exactly how we should tackle international issues. More specifically, I am looking to investigate the several solutions that can be used by using international cooperation. I was looking to take this kind of approach for the following issues. These being the Yemen Crisis, North Korean human rights violations, the conflict between India and Pakistan and refugees. For each of these cases, I would describe what's going on and talk about solutions that can be implemented if the international community or a few other nations could help with in order to solve the problem.

    1. As well as the importance of such cooperation.

    2. I am still planning on researching about how we can tackle international issues but more specifically on the environment and how we need to cooperate in order to deal with certain aspects. These being the issue of global warming and rising levels of CO2. I will be using the speech by Margaret Thatcher at the UN which covers the threat of the changing climate and the "Urban Transformation of the Developing World" which covers the transformation of our world with the increase in population and the result of it.

My question is that, how can our international community work together regarding the issue of our global climate, and how we can change the climate for a healthier and cleaner future?

  7. I'm planning on writing an essay about the effects of social media and gaming on adolescents, a continuation of my PT1 research. However, my PT2 essay will include a balance of both positive and negative effects. Furthermore, the positive effects will include how social media and gaming can form a mutual relationship for new generations. The relationship between the two will use the stimulus materials as evidence. More focus will be placed on the "Social Media and the Movement of Ideas" article because social medias such as Facebook provide games and SNS services. On the contrary, the negative effects will focus on the limitations of when the relationship between social media and gaming goes too far. For example, negative effects will include side effects of long term usage. The negative effects portion will incorporate the "Gaming can make a better world" stimulus material, addressing the drawbacks of the speaker's statements.

    1. After researching for articles for both the positive and negative effects of social media and gaming, I have concluded that the amount of information displaying social media and gaming in a good light is significantly lower than the amount of articles displaying the opposite. Furthermore, the articles which praise social media and gaming are either backed up by weak experiments (Ex. One article determined that social media usage has more positives and negatives, however they only surveyed 10 students) and others have no evidence to put forth. As such, my research focus has changed to the negative effects/possible solutions which I was not able to go in-depth into during my PT1 presentation and essay. For example, I was unable to explore the laws put in place to combat cyber crimes and unfair practices through gaming (Ex. gambling addiction). Additionally, I could not fit in how social media and gaming work together to negatively alter one's mindset. My question pertains to the aspects aforementioned which I was unable to research: In what ways can social media and gaming work together to negatively affect an adolescent's physical and psychological state?

      Delete
    2. Social media and video games can take a lot of time from adolescents from which they could be playing outside, spending time with their family or studying. Another problem is bullying since adolescents' brain is still developing and they can harm themselves.

      Delete
    3. It can cause emotional issues as there can be cyberbullying from both social media and gaming. It also can cause addictions to both of the platforms.

      Delete
    4. Social media and/or gaming is used as a method to escape everyday stress for adolescence. If it's severe enough, they can be spending multiple hours everyday, which would negatively impact their physical health. And if they're using it so much, it could be due to an unhealthy psychological state.

      Delete
    5. If they are too into the game, they can completly shut themselevs off from society. Like popular streamers such as TFue and Ninja causing an unhealthy abundance of isolation

  8. The topic in which I have chosen to investigate in further detail is the benefits that gaming provides to society. This is sort of a run of from my pt1 project which was the effects of social media. I would like to take a deeper dive into the educational aspect of this topic more specifically how gaming benefits students and such into learning better and having an edge on students who do not game as much. The stimulus material that I have chosen to research are the ted talk video and an article about social media. This topic really matters to me since I am also a gamer and I am truly interested in what I may find.

    1. After researching my topic for some time I have found quite a few artciles relating t my topic. Not only have I found alot of articles supporting my topic, all these articles have come from trustworthy sources. I am also still interested in my topic so I will stick with it. My question is will adults take this topic as serious as adolesents will?

    2. I don't think adults will take this as seriously as many do not even play video games, and will have a hard time understanding those who do for extended periods of time.

    3. I think that adults will take the topic as seriously as young adults would. One group of adults who would be interested in this topic are parents of adolescents who are gamers.

  9. For PT2, the topic that I want to explore is "Where do we blur the line between imagination and Escapism when our problems confront you?". What I am hoping to expose by researching this topic is the positive or healthy side of escapism that goes unnoticed amidst the negative connotation. I also wanted to look at the contrast between escapism and imagination and how that affected the negative and positive outlook on escapism.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My topic changed into "How do we engage in positive Escapism when we are faced with problems and what can we do to change the negative connotation of escapism as a whole?" I felt the need to change my previous topic was because of my research material or rather the stimulus material. Their was something really insightful in one my stimulus material that I saw and wanted to draw that out as my main material.

The only question I have is if the topic makes sense? If it doesn't please specify.

      Delete
    2. Your topic does make sense, and the only thing that I would say to specify is what you mean by "positive escapism" and "negative escapism". Which i'm sure you probably go into when you begin explaining, but yes it does make sense and sound interesting.

    3. Your topic makes sense to me. It is very fascinating.

  10. As the generations get older and older more teens are introduced to the world of online gaming, the amount of hours these teens are spending on these games is a ridiculous amount but its important to note what these gamers are saying. A large amount of these teens are speaking very negatively to each other sparking heated arguments of "who has the lower IQ". I would like to answer the question of "what are these these gamers are saying and should we accept the toxicity and move forwards with it or put more limitations and restrictions on words". I've experienced as well have been apart of the problem of online toxicity so I wanted to see what other researchers/professionals might be saying about this issue.

    Replies
    1. Over the March break I thought of my topic quite a bit and I felt that my question could stay the same but with some changes to the wording. Instead of saying "what are these these gamers are saying and should we accept the toxicity and move forwards with it or put more limitations and restrictions on words" but "What is toxicity, where is it applied and should we move forwards with it". I plan on certainly using the TedTalk but the other source material is still in the works

      Delete
    2. Personally no, However as we move forward as a technologically advanced society certain spaces on the internet should have restricted commenting such as government pages, charity and different types of businesses. We can still leave certain social media platforms untouched as we cannot abolish ones right to the freedom of speech .

  11. Since social media is extremely prevalent in today's society, I want to research how social media use affects attitudes toward minority groups.

    1. I changed my topic from how social media use influences attitudes toward minority groups to how social media influences identity development. The types of connections that have formed due to social media's existence are mentioned in Social Media and the Flow of Ideas. Could I use Looking for the Gulf Motel as evidence for my research on identity development?

    3. Yes, you should mention the gulf Motel stimulus for your research. I would love to hear about the influence on the minority groups as I am also using the Social Media stimulus to make connections to other things.

    4. I think Looking for The Gulf Motel could definitely relate to the identity development portion of your essay. When I read it I think more of urbanization but it does also deal with the person's identity as a result of growing technological and urbanization advancements. You could tie in social media by how it influences how someone sees the world.

  13. What I'm most interested in exploring is about Social media and how it can further racist thoughts and actions.I chose the Martin Luther king and Social media package as well as numerous research papers in order to give me the information I need. We have come along way from people burning crosses an others lawn while wearing white hoods so I'm not expecting to see a general increase of racism motivated attacks but to instead see more racists coming forwards and expressing there opinions behind their screens. To sum it up I want to expose the racist online community and what impact they have on real life events.

    1. I've decided to stay with this topic has the research papers I have found a lot of information and they tend to share the same thoughts. To clarify my question is how does social media connect to racist thoughts and actions.

      Delete
    2. I agree with this topic as, racism is found all over the world and also your topic colludes nicely with mine as well. Be sure to include why racism is still an important issue and include other focuses besides racism towards black people.

    3. SNSs allow for the spread of hatred due to the tools which developers provide to users. For example, a user can make their posts more visible through the ability to advertise and the use of hashtags. The product of the spread of one's ideas through the provided tools can encourage those who share the same idea to take their beliefs to the physical realm.

  14. My topic for PT2 at the moment (we all know its gonna change slightly as soon as we start researching more in depth) is going to be research around what we need to do to motivate worldly change or about the fact that we know our planet is dying, but why don't we care? I'm using the “Gaming can make a better world” stimulus as well as the “Looking for the Gulf Motel” stimulus. I figured I would touch on our ocean crisis and the great pacific garbage patch as well as the flint water crisis. Im planning on touching on the aspect of hedonism or how people are only motivated to inflict change if there's some sort of instant gratification. Another point im hoping to address would be referring to our overpopulation crisis happening using Stephen Hawkings theories of the human races current tipping point.

    1. My original thoughts and ideas have stayed on the same track and with the same ideas in mind I just decided to narrow in a bit on one overhanging problem instead of trying to address everything all in one go. Instead of talking about how "We know our world is dying, but why don't we care?" I narrowed it into "Is Procrastination killing our planet?" or even "Procrastinations role on our dying planet." I feel more confident and less overwhelmed by simply picking one general area instead of touching on several different factors. The stimulus materials im wanting to use are the Ted talk about gaming shaping our world as well as the "Looking for the gulf motel" poem because I can talk about the problems of urbanization. My question would be do you think i have enough leniency in my topic? or is it too narrow and can be solved with a one word answer?

      Delete
    2. I think narrowing down your topic was a good choice because it would make it easier to find a solution and I think because your topic could cover many perspectives you would be able to find a cool solution. Your topic interested me so this is a very intriguing idea. Including some of the point you wanted to touch on in the previous comment would be very interesting.

      Delete
  15. The area I would like to investigate is the effect of racism across different platforms. These platforms could be social media and video games or completely different areas like school, work, clubs, sport teams, or even religious places. The stimulus materials are Martin Luther King Jr. letter about Alabama jail and the effects of gaming. These two articles can be connected together since both positive and negative effects can be talked on this topic. There will also be solutions to racism across each of these platforms. I would like to research this topic since I’m also a minority in Canada. As I might not experience as much racism here, many minorities experience racism across the world. This research can help find the solutions to this problem.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My decision for the topic hasn’t really changed since this topic shows how two completely different things like the effects of gaming and a letter from Alabama can really come together on one topic. I feel confident with this choice because there are a variety of ways this topic can be explored through and provide an insightful into it.

My question is, Can our society modernize itself through connections from several forms of media so that we accept each other?

      Delete
    2. This comment has been removed by the author.

    3. Society is able to modernize themselves; however, it might take some time. The ways that society is able to modernize, is from social media such as twitter, instagram and facebook.

      Delete
    4. SNSs such as Instagram and Twitter allow for easy sharing of ideas such as inventions, and ways to take take action. For example, one can use Instagram to show off actions that can be taken to promote a healthier lifestyle or a healthier way of thinking.

      Delete
    5. I think that society is capable to modernize and cut down on the discrimination of others. However it would be a tough task as through many forms of media, people are using such platforms to spread hate. So I would say focus on the impact of these several types of media and how much they have a role in global discrimination.

  16. For my PT2 brainstorm, I am going to investigate the effects of social media and bias between it. In this day and age social media is having a large effect towards society. With social media you are able to spread ideas much faster with a simple tap of a button, but there are negative effects that are associated with this. As you are able to spread anything even things that aren't even true or spread hoax's. This has been notorious during the US Presidential Election where trolls were able to spread false rumors about certain presidential candidates or spreading "fake news". Another issue is social media handling terrorist incidents and the way they spread information. In some notorious shooting incidents such as the shooting in Las Vegas, trolls were spreading rumors that the shooting was a "registered democrat", when infact the shooter was a republican. Which is why I want to focus on social media.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My idea has changed a tiny bit, instead of bias I am going to focus on fake news and the effects of it, but overall my idea has remained the same. I am also gonna to use examples that aren't related to politics, but to other certain subjects since "fake news" has been associated with the US Presidential Elections. My question is how can we prevent "fake news" from spreading and what are some solutions to this problem.

      Delete
    2. We can prevent fake news by getting the answer from the source instead from letting other people misinform others and cause more problems to happen.

      Delete
    3. In my opinion, preventing fake news from spreading is a big task. Fake information spreads fast and even unknowingly. Stopping it at its source and fact checking yourself or doing proper research stops unaccurate imformation from being released but the topic is a lot bigger than that. If people wouldnt believe everything they hear online then it wouldnt be as much of an issue.

  17. This is an ever-evolving theses and topics. Still deciding what to do.

Thesis 1: Society is forever changing, and many things can dictate that change; be it, cultural, technological, natural, or even up to the individual. At what point, however, do we decide that a situation or idea needs to be changed?
Focus 1: How societal attitudes towards war, have changed, and will change. How awareness of conflict and de-escalation is achievable. The part that conflicting parties, aiding parties, and the indifferent play in war.

Thesis 2: Change is inevitable, and comes without warning. How we perceive change comes from the emotions and memories that taint the past. We often have a hard time embracing that change, despite that change often progresses slowly. At what point do we finally embrace our current lives despite the changes from the past?
Focus 2: What impact past experiences have on present living, and how nostalgia impacts us. Why we remember the moments of intense emotions from the past, and let only our recalled memories influence our view of the past. The perceived passage of time throughout life.

Blended Focus of 1 & 2: What impact present situations have on our perception of the future. A Focus on Hitler's democratic influence on Germany, and how that led to war.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've chosen to write about topic #1 primarily with notes of topic #2. (The blended focus doesn't work for me well now) The idea of war has evolved to conflict; something which may not have opposing sides and gunfire. The idea of current perception has changed to that of societal awareness in the face of change or conflict. Conflict primarily means (in the context of my research) a force that opposes change and the well being of a certain party. This can include public health crises, natural disasters, war, and how we can prevent, explain, or otherwise interact with those events in the moment, and how we can step back to look at them when the treat is minimized.

      Delete
    2. Does my topic seem too broad?

My stimulus materials are Blowin' in the Wind and Waiting for the Gulf Motel. Which both touch on changes over time, the notions of the past, and how things may (or may not) be better off because of the past.

      Delete
  18. I would like to look at how politics has evolved over the years. I want to compare specifically historical European politics and present day democracy in North America perhaps. I would like to compare and contrast the methods that are used to suppress and control the populations. I want to examine the different factors that have contributed to the differences in methods of governing; technological advancements, religious (in)tolerance, scientific discoveries, societal hierarchies, perception of different groups etc. I want to look at the effect of historical governing policies on present day political ideologies. I want to examine and compare the pros and cons of each ideology. To what degree have the ideologies actually changed or are the same methods just presented in a different fashion to the masses? In the end, I want to examine how these affect the lives of the citizens.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I slightly changed my topic because I felt the previous one was super broad and all over the place. It didn't explain exactly what it is I am looking into. Now I am specifically looking at how the control of people, through politics, differs/resembles between 2 time periods.

Question: How can I make it so that this topic matters and is interesting?

      Delete
    2. I think you could include an aspect of "comparative politics". This is the study of the domestic politics, political institutions, and conflicts of countries. It often involves comparisons among countries and through time within single countries, emphasizing key patterns of similarity and difference.

      Delete
    3. From just reading the two previous comments, its a very interesting topic and i am interested in what research you'll uncover with this. The topic of political control on a population matters so i dont think you need to add anything else to mak it matter even more. As long as you organize your thoughts well and arent jumping between time frames every other sentence i think it will stay interesting.

  19. For my PT2 topic, I decided to investigate the topic of how time perception affects an individual’s intelligence. More specifically, how an individual’s perception of time has a meaningful impact on their creative, analytical, and practical intelligence. Creative intelligence is distinguished as one’s imaginative and innovative problem solving abilities. Analytical intelligence is described as acquiring academic problem solving skills. Practical intelligence is defined through developing street smart and common sense practices. Time perception is the concept of how an individual experiences or senses awareness of a passage of time. I want to dig deep, find a connection on how one’s experience of time has an effect on their imaginative and academic problem solving skills, and also their common sense practices, and create a bold and distinct relation.

    1. My topic on how time perception affects intelligence has changed. This was mainly due to the fact that I couldn't find effective articles relating to my topic. Also, the articles I found really didn't have a conversation. So, I thought of a new topic: Can time perception be the solution to all our problems? I primarily wanted my IWA to be focused on time perception, so I thought of a new topic surrounding it. In my new topic, I wanted to elaborate on how time perception affects emotional experiences, intelligence, and the pursuit of change, and therefore becoming a solution to our problems. I also wanted to talk about time distortions, and its effects. I found many articles on the following topic, and they tend to have a conversation. Would my new topic be an interesting and creative topic to read about?

I want to compare predictions of conservationists to the reality we have today. The rate at which the animals are going extinct is exceptionally high. I would like to research some of the ways people are trying to stop animals from going extinct fast. There are many species of animals on land, in the air, and in the oceans that have already gone extinct and many that will be extinct due to the decrease in the numbers in their populations. I want to learn more about some of the predictions people are making now when it comes to animal extinction. I want to learn more about people’s reactions towards animal extinction as well as their reactions when they realized animals were going extinct. I would like to expose myself to a variety of predictions related to animal extinction and compare them to today’s world.

    1. I did not change my PT2 topic because there are so many reasons why it is a good topic. The topic is very informative because there are so many concepts that need to be covered in my IWA and it is a problem that the world is facing today which needs a fix. I like to research topics that are problems in the world and learning more ways on how to fix them. There are many articles related to animal extinction that I can use and I enjoy researching this topic.

How do I synthesize the stimulus material with my topic?

    2. Maybe Try relating this to the social media stimulus paper by exploring how activism and the sharing of information helps endangered species

  22. The topic I’m thinking of right now may change, but so far I was thinking of doing a continuation of a part of my PT1 topic which was mirror neurons. I was interested in looking into how
individuals make decisions/ actions consciously or unconsciously due to the influence of others. This influences how an individual responds or learns in their environment. In addition to that I also found the topic of mythos rhetoric interesting which involves interpreting the world which leads to rational thought and ethical behavior. It’s a system of beliefs meaningful to groups such as society, cultural groups, etc. Since these topics have to do with interconnectedness of individuals, I thought it would tie in with the sources given. I could discuss the effects of certain influences on individuals and on groups and positive and negative outcomes.

    1. Though I am still focusing on an area of psychology and neuroscience, I changed my topic to focus more on memories and how different types of memories affect your behaviour. I decided to change because I wanted to take a break from my PT1 topic and I did not want to do a complete continuation. I wanted to find a new topic in the same type of field with some similar aspects but also completely new ones. I thought this topic of memories could offer a wide range of concepts to explore.
Is focusing on different types of memories too broad or would it be more interesting to hear my topic narrowed down to focus on one type of memory?

    2. I think your topic is really interesting. I think you should narrow it down to one type of memory, and expand on that topic. This will make your paper sound more compelling and interesting.

    3. I think you should focus on narrowing your topic down to a specific memory. You should narrow it down because you will have something specific to focus on. It will make your organization easier and you will be able to find a solution to your problem easier.

  23. I'd really like to explore the realm of lucid dreaming and how this can help people overcome problems they are facing that effect how their everyday lives look like. If people are able to face their fears, worries, or problems through a “shielded” but realistic situation, they can have an idea of what the results are going to be. Another perspective that may contribute (still needs further research) is the idea of “computers reading dream imagery”. If this is used, scientists are able to predict what you are dreaming about through brain waves.

    1. I'm going to stick with this topic since there are many connections that I can see between Lucid dreaming and solving real-world problems. I've also researched into a number of studies with positive results. I believe that it's easy to connect this topic to some of the sources we were provided with.

One question I have is coming up with case studies conducted for lucid dreaming being very closely related to the case studies/sources that we were provided with. I have a lot of ideas, but it's difficult finding a "real" case study. Does anyone know where I can find some case studies (websites)?

  24. For PT 2 I will be questioning why people use social media? What makes them use social media so much? Does it create anxiety? Another thing I will investigate is about negative and positive self-perception. Our self-esteem. Another topic I found interesting was about the idea that our thoughts kill us internally. A Intrapersonal relationship with ourselves. I want to deep-dive into what we think about when using social media. I will be using the social media stimulus.

    1. I will continue with my question of Social media and what type of impact it leaves us with. The impact may be negative or positive. In addition I will be relating Social media to self-talk, and Self awareness

My question is “Are there any other stimulus material that relates to my topic other than the Social Media?”

    2. I feel like looking into the stimulus material about how gaming can change the world will be especially effective to your topic. Online games are also a platform of social media and people often interact on there. This means that gaming can also be factor that you will be able to insert in your presentation that will enrich your overall point.

  25. I will be looking into psychology. To be more specific, I will be investigating learning strategies, as well as, mindful psychology to see how to control one's own mind better. I am hoping to find new information that can be applied into mine and my colleagues personal lives that would help us live a life. The main idea i will be looking into is the effects of our day to day lives and how they affect our mental stability. I will be looking into the minds of famous scholars who shared their way of thinking with the world. I am hoping to expose any “life hacks” that people may have figured out to the world so everyone can know about them and collectively enjoy them.

    1. My topic has not changed as I still strongly believe that this topic piques my curiosity and also through further reaserch pique my colleagues curiosity. Futhermore, research in this topic will help me and my peers better understand how our mind works.

    2. My research is supposed to apply to people on a personal everyday level. How do i "package" my information into pieces that everyone will be able to easily relate to and apply to themselves.

    3. You could divide it up into different events throughout the normal day and relate those events and their effects to us. By dividing the day up with its events, you will be able to relate to more people because someone will have at least one of those events in their everyday life.

    4. I would say try and organize your ideas into categories that work and improve each other. Try and pair your ideas that are similar and that can be connected to one another.

  26. I'm interested in looking into how we can reform our governments to better allow change and adaptation. Many of the laws and policies in action in governments today are outdated because the systems set in place have made change and development very difficult. Many issues such as civil rights movements and the inaction surrounding the climate crisis are simply there because the processes to change certain policies are overly complicated, unknown or simply reflect the voice of few rather than many. Our government processes have not kept up with our advancements in technology and sciences. Decision making by means of representative takes a while and does not always allow citizens to voice their true thoughts. In countries like Canada and America, the majority of individuals have constant access to technology that gives easy access to one-to-many and many-to-one communication. Voting machines are already a thing. Why wouldn’t we integrate them into our phones so small decisions can be made using the same processes, so more people’s true voices are represented and more changes could be made to truly reflect the values of the people.

    1. After researching a bit more i find myself leaning towards researching how the newer generations have impacted how we as a species are dealing with climate change. so far I've been looking at in what way media has affected how we're dealing with climate change and how certain movements have, in an attempt to reduce our ecological footprint, actually end up contributing to it, like how implementing solar and wind energy end up promoting the coal/natural gas industry.

  28. Video games have been gaining a lot of popularity in the past few years but before that they were looked upon as something that was not normal. In the past few years, there has been more and more discussion on if video games are a positive or negative influence in life and this is a topic I would like to explore. By investigating this topic, I hope to understand the pros and cons of video games and their effects on us.

  29. I would like to investigate the affects political tribalism has on societal issues and perspectives, with inspiration leaning heavily on the Letter From Birmingham Jail. Often, perspectives to societal issues is influenced by your political leanings, and what your politician of choice believes on the issue. A good example of this exists in the United States. The average everyperson in the US typically wouldn't care about the intricacies of NAFTA or American Trade with Southeast Asian Countries, but since their politician of choice, Donald Trump, lashed against it, people have formulated strong opinions about it. This is also present in nearly every Democratic nation in the world, with people drawing rather divisive lines over political boundries, with violence sometimes spilling over, like the murder of Pro-Europe politician Jo Cox in Britain prior to the Brexit vote. Why is that, and at what extent does it affect society as a whole?
